Live from Studio A: The Ameri-Finn All Stars
After meeting at a music festival, Minnesota native Steve Solkela and Finland native Ida Metsberg teamed up for occasional performances as the Ameri-Finn All Stars, including sets at FinnFest 2024 in Duluth. They joined us in the studio on July 25, 2024 to share a song from each musician's repertoire, plus a well-known American song with Finnish lyrics. We talked with Solkela about how he experienced his Finnish heritage growing up on the Iron Range and with Metsberg about growing up in a musical family and moving to New York at 21 to pursue her own music.

Summer of Service Clean-Up Event in Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. — On Thursday people from radio station Life 97.9 paired up with Twin Ports Trailer Trash to get Duluth a little cleaner. Through the radio, they encouraged listeners to get outside and help keep the community clean. Volunteers hit the park point beach to pick up trash along the shoreline. Water walkers plan ceremony along entire St. Croix River
Indigenous women organize effort to carry water the length of the river in prayer. Water and women are givers of life. That’s why an Ojibwe woman from Minnesota named Sharon Day has carried water for countless miles over the past ten years, as part of ceremonies called Nibi Walks. This fall, she and other women will walk the length of the St. Croix River, carrying a copper pail of water collected at the river’s source to its mouth at the Mississippi, using roads and trails as close to the river’s path as possible.
