The O'Rorke Bridge, which spans the Genesee River and connects Charlotte and Irondequoit, has been reopened after being closed for several hours.

Due to a gate malfunction, the bridge, was closed around 9 p.m. on Thursday.. No information is available on why the bridge malfunctioned.

The bridge opened on October 2, 2004. Named after Civil War hero Colonel Patrick O’Rorke, over 35 of his descendants and 1,500 residents attended the dedication ceremonies. This marked the end of one of the most significant construction projects in Monroe County history and the end of service for the 87-year-old Stutson Street Bridge.
