Celebrating 50 years in business: Dan’s Crafts & Things

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC) — Dan’s Crafts & Things, a locally owned hobby shop, is celebrating 50 years in business.

The storefront on Empire Boulevard — their third but long-standing location by decades — sells everything from RC vehicles, toys, paint and parts, Gundam builds, LEGOs, model rockets, metal detectors… And plenty of other “things.”

The store, named for its founder Dan Donalies, is now in its second generation. Brothers John and Curtis are in charge.

Fitting for brothers, they say their skills complement each other’s. Curtis knows RC car repair and helps with the front end, while John loves train modeling and handles the books and scoring the deals.

But for both of them, they come to work each day to help everyone — from families to kids, to pros, to first-timers, and more — to find what they’re looking for at Dan’s Crafts & Things .

“Seeing people take pleasure in their hobbies in their hobbies is very rewarding, I enjoy being able to participate in that,” John said.

“To see that excitement, and being able to help achieve what they want to do, is very fulfilling.

The 50th-anniversary celebration is Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. — 5 p.m. You can enter a raffle to win some crafts and things, all to benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital.
