Tuesday night concert generates 8,000 meals for those in need

Ironton Alive and the band “The Chase” on Tuesday donated to the Facing Hunger Foodbank that services the Tri-State area — following the Summer Concert Series put on by Ironton Alive.
“John Griffiths owns Studimo Productions and produces the concerts; his band is playing,” said Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton Alive. “He announced that they’ll donate a dollar for every person that attends the concert to the Facing Hunger Foodbank.”
Following on the heels of that announcement by Griffiths, Ironton Alive joined in on the giving by also donating to the food bank.
“Ironton Alive decided we’re going to do the same thing, so it will be two dollars to the food bank for every person that is there,” Heighton said.
Griffiths and Heighton signed and gave a check of $210 to the food bank as well as $600 in donations. The money donated from Tuesday night’s concert was enough to make 8,000 meals for those in need.
“Each person here represents nine meals,” said Liz Watson, community relations officer of Facing Hunger Foodbank. “We have some wonderful programs at the food bank; we have a senior program that takes care of 6,000 seniors a month.”
Facing Hunger Foodbank services almost 300 agencies in 17 counties in southeastern Ohio, eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.
“This donation is going right back into the community to feed people, so thank you,” Watson said.
The Chase filled the farmers market for two hours with sounds of classic rock from the ’80s and ’90s. Along with the monetary donations canned food was also collected and given to the food bank.
