Authorities described Hern as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 275 pounds, with light brown hair and green eyes.
In a Wednesday morning update, the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team said it received a tip about Hern asking for directions to Sal Branch Falls within the wilderness area of Daniel Boone National Forest.
“We sent a group of 11 searchers into the area last night and searched until after midnight but we were unable to locate him,” the organization said. “This is a very rugged off trail area to search and visibility was compromised by darkness and fog.”
Crews are asking the public to stay clear of the Gladie Visitor Center and Osborne Bend parking areas on Wednesday for search teams to utilize the parking.
If you see him or know where he is, call Wolfe County dispatch at 606-668-6757.
