CAMPTON, Ky. — There is a search on for an Ironton man who was last seen in on the Fourth of July and is believed to be lost in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky.

In a Facebook post by the Wolfe County Search & Rescue, they said the vehicle of Scott Allen Hern was found on Saturday in a parking lot on Highway 715 in Red River Gorge.

Hern was reported as missing to the Ironton Police Department by his family after they hadn’t seen him since July 4. After officers searched his house and didn’t find him, a missing report was filed.

Tips from the public to the Wolfe’s County Sheriff’s Office was that on Saturday, Hern was seen asking for directions on how to find the Sal Branch Waterfalls in the forest, but that the information wasn’t 100 percent confirmed.

Members of the Wolfe County Search & Rescue was sent into that area on Tuesday night and searched until midnight but were unable to located Hern in the very rugged off-trail area. The search was called off because of darkness and fog.

The search resumed on Wednesday with the help of dogs.

Hern is 48 and described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 275 pounds and having light brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone with information about this case can call, Wolfe County dispatch at 606-668-6757.
