Firefighters Battle Against 2 Growing Fires With Hazy Conditions
Firefighters continue the battle today against two big fires burning in the area as they anticipate more gusty winds and hot dry conditions. Highway 12 remains closed from the top of White Pass to Oak Creek as firefighters try and get a handle on the Rimrock/Retreat Fire started Tuesday afternoon on private property in the Rimrock Retreat/Trout Lodge area. The blaze then spread into the forest with the blaze now burning more than 8,000 acres. US Highway 12 remains closed because of downed power lines, trees, and boulders. All evacuation notices remain in place and there's no estimated time when Highway 12 will reopen.

Update: Air quality alert issued for Oregon
On Wednesday at 6:02 p.m. an updated air quality alert was issued for Crook, Deschutes, Grant, Morrow, Umatilla and Wheeler counties. According to the National Weather Service, "Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. A Smoke Air Quality Advisory has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes runny nose aggravate heart and lung diseases and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition."
Kootenai County firefighters lend a hand with Oregon wildfire
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — On Saturday night, the state of Oregon requested the state of Idaho send firefighters to help with the Durkee Fire in eastern Oregon. By 5 a.m. Sunday, volunteers from Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, Timberlake Fire Protection District and Hauser Lake Fire Protection District and Worley Fire District mobilized to lend their assistance with battling the blaze. Each North Idaho department sent two firefighters and a brush truck to fulfil the request.
