Pirates Unravel in Sixth, Fall 4-3 to Diamondbacks
The Pittsburgh Pirates had an early three-run lead but the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied for a 4-3 win at Chase Field on Friday night. Andrew McCutchen put the Pirates (52-51) ahead 3-0 in the second inning after driving in Joey Bart with a double. McCutchen’s RBI double was his 1,638th hit in a Pirates uniform, which ties him with Fred Clarke for 10th place on the franchise’s all-time list.
UPMC celebrates 175th anniversary of Passavant
This year, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center health system is celebrating the 175th anniversary of the UPMC Passavant hospital. Founded in 1849 in the Uptown section of Pittsburgh, the first hospital — now known as UPMC Passavant-McCandless — has since moved to Babcock Road in the North Hills neighborhood, and later gained a sister location in Cranberry Township.

On May 5 Jonah’s Call Anglican Church moved into its new location at 907 Middle St. The move converted Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church to an Anglican Church that traces its “spiritual heritage back through the historic Church of England,” according to the church’s website. “Jonah’s Call” is in reference to the Prophet Jonah, “who was called upon to preach the news of God’s love to a city that needed to hear it,” according to Jonah 3:1-10 in the Bible.
Activities Planned At Moraine State Park
It’s a great weekend to enjoy some outdoor activities at Moraine State Park. First, a Star Party is planned for Saturday night from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Beach Area on the North Shore of Moraine. Volunteers from the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will bring their privately owned telescopes to help participants learn how to spot a few planets and constellations. Those planning to attend should bring a lawn chair or blanket as well as bug spray. No smoking, flashlights, light-up toys, or cell phones at this free event.
