A North Texas family is mourning a young mother who was killed in a shooting last week at an Irving hotel.

A disturbance call at the Clarion Inn & Suites DFW North turned deadly on Friday night, according to Irving police. Around 8:50 p.m. officers responded to the hotel, at 4800 Plaza Drive, following several noise complaints from guests.

According to Irving police, the situation involved a physical altercation between a man, identified as Cedric Campbell, and two women inside one of the hotel rooms.

During the fight, Campbell is accused of shooting one of the women, 19-year-old Zenri McGee. Officers arrived to find McGee critically injured from gunshot wounds.

First responders rushed McGee to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

McGee, a mother of two young boys who are 1 and 3 years old, has left behind a grieving family. Her sister has started a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support McGee’s children.

The sister, Breanna Bettis, expressed her devastation, writing, “I don’t understand how someone with a beautiful soul like her could just be ripped away.”
