UP state parks offer fireworks-free Fourth of July weekend
CHAMPION, Mich. (WLUC) - The DNR and Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency are highlighting some quieter camping options for the Fourth of July. Fireworks aren’t allowed in any Michigan state parks, but there are a few campgrounds that will be less crowded and further away from fireworks than others. According to the DNR, that’s Wells State Park, Craig Lake State Park, Bewabic State Park, and Tahquamenon Falls State Park.

Submit pet photos for the UPAWS 2025 calendar contest
SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter has opened voting for this year’s calendar contest. Organizers said voting opened yesterday and continues until the month’s end. You can now submit your animal’s photo online on UPAWS.com. They also said the entry fee is only $10 per photo and $1 to vote. All money raised goes back into the shelter.

Wedig Studio to be featured at Graci Gallery in July 2024
Graci Gallery in Marquette welcomes the married couple Cindy and Dale Wedig with their joint exhibition this July. Their exhibition will display two sides of art; metal works and painting. Cindy's background is in ceramics, with a wide range of functional pottery items. She works in other mediums, such as felt and oil/cold wax. Dale works with metals, including copper raising, steel forging, and various casting methods. Both artists have ties to Northern Michigan University; Cindy graduated from NMU with a Bachelor of Fine Art, and Dale is a Professor of Art and Design. The couple shares a home in Trenary, where they spend their time working on their respective mediums and enjoying the woods and Whitefish River.
