EV industry praises federal investments in Michigan
Michigan's electric vehicle industry is praising the Biden administration for its latest investments in EV manufacturing and innovation. About $650 million will go toward retooling auto plants in Lansing and Marysville to produce newer EV models. The funding is part of the Inflation Reduction Act, going to Michigan and seven other states to make more EVs.
Cherry retailers are booming as growers struggle to hold on
Glen Arbor-based retailer Cherry Republic has built a successful business around a fruit that company President Bob Sutherland calls a “ruby red morsel of joy.”. For Cherry Republic, the tart cherry is much more than a crop, it’s a key piece of the Up North lifestyle that the company sells through its chain of six stores throughout Michigan, including locations in Holland, Traverse City, Charlevoix, Ann Arbor, and Frankenmuth. The stores offer more than 200 products ranging from chocolate-covered dried cherries and cherry candy to cherry summer sausage and cherry-based barbeque sauce. The company, which has 140 full-time employees, also distributes to around 700 stores nationwide.

State Funding to Support Drone Testing, Electric Aircraft Charging in TC
Four projects will receive $6.25 million in funding to help bring advanced air mobility infrastructure to Michigan, including two projects in Traverse City. A $689,500 grant will allow Traverse Connect – in partnership with Munson Healthcare, Northwestern Michigan College, the Freshwater Research & Innovation Center, and more – to test using drones to deliver medical supplies, conduct water sampling and bathymetric mapping, and support emergency response around Lake Michigan. Meanwhile, a $2.6 million grant will allow BETA Technologies to install multimodal chargers for electric aircraft and ground vehicles at four Michigan airports, including Cherry Capital Airport.

Camp Infinity is a series of week long sessions that introduce girls in grades 5th through 8th to the world of computer programming and internet technology through hands on activities.
