Orlando, FL – In a chilling criminal case that has gripped Central Florida, United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced that Jordonish Garcia Torres, 28, of Orlando, has been formally charged with a carjacking that resulted in the death of a woman. The grave charges against Garcia Torres could lead to the death penalty or life imprisonment if he is convicted.

The complaint details that on April 11, 2024, Garcia Torres allegedly confronted the victim at gunpoint in Winter Springs, Florida. He is accused of forcibly commandeering her vehicle, driving her to a remote location in Osceola County where he fatally shot her. The victim was then tragically burned inside her vehicle, according to law enforcement officials.

This case is being meticulously investigated by a coalition of law enforcement agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, and other federal agencies, underscoring the serious nature of the crime.

Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie McNeff and Michael P. Felicetta are leading the prosecution, as the case forms part of the broader initiative of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through community and inter-agency collaboration, focusing on building trust within communities and strategic law enforcement efforts.

As the legal proceedings unfold, it is important to remember that a complaint is merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. Garcia Torres, like all defendants, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The community continues to watch closely as this serious case progresses through the judicial system.
