Fatal Collision on SR-60 in Hillsborough Leaves Motorcyclist Dead

Hillsborough, FL - According to Florida Highway Patrol, a tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist on State Road 60 earlier today, May 2, 2024. The collision occurred at approximately 1:39 PM at the intersection of Dover Road, according to local authorities.

Preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that a Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 28-year-old man from Brandon, was heading eastbound on SR-60 when it failed to stop at a red traffic signal. At the same time, a 42-year-old man from Dover, riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle, was traveling westbound. The motorcyclist was executing a lawful left turn under a green light at the intersection when the eastbound sedan collided with him.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. Despite their efforts, the motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, which is focused on determining the precise cause of the failure to adhere to the traffic signal by the driver of the Hyundai. The area around the crash site was closed for several hours as investigators worked to clear the scene and gather evidence.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be made available as they are confirmed by the authorities.
