Sarasota, FL - According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a tragic incident occurred this morning at Booker Middle School, located at 2250 Myrtle Street in Sarasota, resulting in critical injuries to a 12-year-old pedestrian.

At approximately 7:45 AM, a 30-year-old female driver, operating a sedan, was in the process of dropping off a student at the school. The vehicle was stopped in the right turn lane of Myrtle Street, just west of Newtown Blvd. As the young pedestrian, also a resident of Sarasota, exited the vehicle on the passenger side, she accidentally dropped several markers and pens.
