Sarasota, FL - According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a tragic incident occurred this morning at Booker Middle School, located at 2250 Myrtle Street in Sarasota, resulting in critical injuries to a 12-year-old pedestrian.

At approximately 7:45 AM, a 30-year-old female driver, operating a sedan, was in the process of dropping off a student at the school. The vehicle was stopped in the right turn lane of Myrtle Street, just west of Newtown Blvd. As the young pedestrian, also a resident of Sarasota, exited the vehicle on the passenger side, she accidentally dropped several markers and pens. While attempting to retrieve the items from under the vehicle, the driver, unaware of the situation, began to move forward.

Tragically, the vehicle's wheels struck the pedestrian, causing severe injuries. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. The injured pedestrian was transported via Bay-Flite to All Children’s Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Her next of kin has been notified.

It was her mother that hit the child, she dropped her school supplies and mom didn’t guess see it happened and drove over child as she was picking them up. Please pray for this 12 yr. old. 🙏
