Volusia County, FL – A tragic crash early Sunday morning on I-4 Eastbound near mile marker 105 claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and left the 51-year-old driver in critical condition.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:33 a.m. when a 1996 Honda Civic, traveling eastbound on I-4, lost control and veered off the roadway. The vehicle ran onto the outside shoulder and collided with trees. The passenger, a 23-year-old man from Jacksonville, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have notified his next of kin.

The driver, a 51-year-old man from DeLand, suffered critical injuries and was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital. His condition remains serious, and his next of kin has not yet been notified.

It is unknown whether seatbelts were in use at the time of the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
