Winter Haven, FL – A 23-year-old Winter Haven man is behind bars after a high-speed pursuit, a collision with a patrol vehicle, and a crash that ended in a foot chase Monday night.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO), the incident began around 10:16 p.m. on September 23, 2024, when deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the Carefree Cove neighborhood. The suspect, identified as Camerin Keelan, fled the scene in a black 2014 Toyota Camry before deputies arrived.

PCSO’s air unit quickly spotted the suspicious vehicle circling the neighborhood and relayed the information to ground units. In an attempt to stop Keelan from leaving the area, Deputy Howard parked her patrol car at the only exit with emergency lights flashing. Instead of stopping, Keelan intentionally rammed the patrol vehicle and fled south on Lake Alfred Road.

Deputy Howard pursued Keelan until he lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a light pole and a boulder at the RaceTrac store near the intersection of Havendale Boulevard and U.S. 17. Keelan then fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after by deputies.

Keelan was booked into the Polk County Jail and faces a series of charges, including:

    • Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer
    • Fleeing to elude
    • Resisting arrest with violence
    • Resisting arrest without violence
    • Leaving the scene of a crash
    • Violation of probation

At the time of the incident, Keelan was out on pre-trial release for a lewd and lascivious offense involving a minor between the ages of 12 and 16. Fortunately, Deputy Howard was not injured in the collision.

Keelan remains in custody as the investigation continues.

    Key Takeaways:
