Manatee County, FL. - According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Bradenton man has been arrested following an extensive investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident in Manatee County. The incident occurred on October 12, 2024, at approximately 2:30 am on US-41 (14th Street West) near the intersection of 66th Avenue West.

FHP reports that the driver, identified as 21-year-old Darien Mykel Olliff from Bradenton, was operating a sport utility vehicle traveling northbound on US-41. Pedestrian 1, a 41-year-old man from Bradenton, was riding a bicycle without lighting and traveling north directly in front of Olliff's vehicle when the vehicle’s front collided with the bicycle. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the collision, Olliff fled the scene in his vehicle. The Bradenton Police Department later located the SUV with front-end damage consistent with the crash. After an exhaustive investigation, FHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit arrested Olliff for leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and he has since been booked into the Manatee County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing as FHP continues to gather details about the crash.
