CLEVELAND, OH - A new restaurant has come to the westside.

If you're in the mood for some Afghan cuisine, you might want to check out Saffron Restaurant, which recently opened its doors in Cleveland's Jefferson neighborhood at 3650 W 117th St.

The restaurant's menu includes appetizers like bowlawnee (which is an oven-baked pastry that is filled with scallions and your choice of chopped leek or potatoes with herbs) and mantu, which are dumplings filled with ground beef and scallions, and topped with homemade yogurt, meat sauce, and mint.

As for main courses, Saffron offers qabuli uzbek palau (which consists of seasoned rice, lamb chunks, carrots, raisins, and a meat sauce called qurma), mahicha palau (which comes with seasoned rice, lamb leg, carrots, raisins, and qurma), and saffron palau, which consists of seasoned ground beef that is broiled on a skewer, saffron rice, and qurma.

The menu also has a soup called ash (which contains noodles, vegetables, spicy yogurt, and ground beef), salad (which consists of vegetables topped with your choice of dressing), and fruit salad, which is made with strawberries, bananas, pomegranate, orange, cream, and honey.

In addition, Saffron offers some kabobs (check out the kabob mix platter, which comes with chicken, seasoned ground beef, and lamb that are all marinated in various herbs and spices), Afghan burger (which is a fast food wrap filled with fries, boiled egg, cheese, and veggies), sambosa (which is a fried pastry that is filled with ground beef, chickpeas, and herbs), and chicken fries.

If you have room for dessert, the restaurant serves baklava (a pastry that is soaked in syrup and has walnuts and ground pistachios) and firnee, which is a chilled sweet cornstarch pudding that is topped with pistachios. If you want something to drink, Saffron offers chai green tea, chai black tea, sheer chai, and saffron tea as well as fresh orange juice, fresh watermelon juice, and smoothies.

Here is what a customer had to say about the new addition to Cleveland in a Google review:

Beautiful atmosphere, authentic Afghan dishes with proper Afghan chefs, feels like home. Gonna order with them again & again.

    Another customer wrote:

Best authentic Afghan food in town, definitely recommend.
