OLMSTED FALLS, OH - At the end of last year, Parilya celebrated the grand opening of its brick-and-mortar restaurant at 8155 Columbia Rd. I went to the restaurant about a month after opening and fell in love with Parilya's delicious Filipino food, especially with its chicken tocino, considered to be one of the restaurant's signature dishes.

A few weeks ago, I revisited Parilya with some friends, and I'm glad to say that the restaurant continues to offer a fantastic experience several months after opening its doors.

The Olmsted Falls restaurant is located inside a shopping plaza on Columbia Road. The space is primarily set up for takeout orders, but Parilya does have a few tables for customers who wish to dine in.

My friends and I decided to share 3 dishes: chicken tocino, BBQ chicken, and adobo pasta. We also split dessert: 2 loaves of Spanish bread and ube flan cake.

Every single thing we had was delicious.

As we waited for the staff to cook the chicken dishes and pasta, we tried the Spanish bread and ube flan cake. The Spanish bread was soft, not too dense, and not overwhelmingly sweet. Inside the bread was a scrumptious filling made out of butter and brown sugar.

The ube flan cake was also fantastic. The dessert consisted of two layers. On top was a layer of rich moist ube cake, and underneath the cake was an even richer thick layer of creamy flan. The dessert was a bit too sweet and rich for my friends, but I, as a self-proclaimed sugar fiend, found the dessert delightful and was all too happy to polish off the sweet treat.

Within a few minutes, the savory dishes were ready. First, we tried the BBQ chicken, which came with a large portion of meat, a generous portion of garlic fried rice, and some pickled vegetables. The meat was tender and juicy while having a tasty smoky yet subtly sweet flavor. The chicken tocino was likewise delicious. It was just as great as the first time I'd ordered it - equally as juicy and tender as the BBQ chicken while having a tangy, slightly sweet flavor from pineapple juice. The chicken tocino also came with garlic fried rice and pickled veggies as well as a fried egg.

The adobo pasta was a pleasant surprise and showed that vegan is not a synonym for bland. It consisted of spaghetti noodles, little cubes of tofu, and various veggies. Though it had zero meat, it was full of flavor due to the delectable sweet and savory adobo sauce that covered the noodles.

By the end of our meal, we were stuffed. Considering how generous and filling the portions were (and they were very much so), the meal was more than reasonably priced. The total came to be around $60, so about $20 a person.

And for food this good, I would be more than happy to pay that again and again.

If you want to check out the restaurant for yourself, you can find it at 8155 Columbia Rd, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138.
