Looking for a yoga retreat? Two of the best in America are in New England, according to USA Today readers

One is in the Berkshires.

Travelers in search of positive energy can stay at two regional yoga retreats recently named among the best in the nation.

USA Today released a list of the 10 best yoga retreats in America, part of its 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and Sewall House in Island Falls, Maine ranked No. 2 and Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge ranked No. 9.

“Beyond deepening one’s yoga practice, yoga retreat centers empower guests to disconnect from technology, detox, and surround themselves with positive energy,” wrote USA Today.

“A retreat at Sewall House may focus on Kundalini yoga, women’s mental health, or the intersection of writing and yoga, with events that are open to beginners as well as experienced practitioners,” wrote the publication.

Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in the Berkshires also has yoga for all levels.

“The Kripalu R&R experience is the signature retreat which allows guests to choose exactly what they need — a full schedule of yoga classes, more meditation, some dance or sound healing, or guided outdoor adventures,” wrote USA Today.

The No. 1 yoga retreat is the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, Penn.

For those seeking meditation, Maine also has one of the 10 best meditation centers in the U.S., according to USA Today readers — Rolling Meadows Retreat in Friendship, Maine ranked No. 9. The No. 1 meditation center is Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing in Cragsmoor, N.Y.

For the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards lists, USA Today travel experts select 20 nominees in topics from food to lodging, destinations to things to do. Then the publication asks readers to cast votes to determine the top 10.
