A Townshend man was arraigned in a Windham County courtroom yesterday for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun in her car. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Monday in Newfane. Vermont State Police received a report from the woman, who stated that a man pointed a handgun at her after approaching her vehicle on Route 30. Following her description, officers identified and arrested 35-year-old Matthew Poplawski at his residence without incident. He is currently held at Southern State Correctional Facility on a $1,000 bail.
Two plead innocent to separate murders
NEWPORT — On August 20 two men appeared remotely in the Criminal Division of Orleans County Superior Court to deny murder charges in two different killings. Brownswell Cedano, 29, currently incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill in Minersville, Pennsylvania, pled innocent to second-degree murder in the death of Richard Poginy in November 2019.
