Biden, Trump dominate primaries at state and local levels

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and former President Donald J. Trump dominated the presidential primary elections for their respective parties in Virginia on Super Tuesday, March 5, as well as in Isle of Wight County.

According to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections website, with 131 out of 133 precincts reporting statewide on Wednesday morning, March 6, Biden had won the Democratic Party Presidential Primary with 88.69% of the vote.

In the Republican Party Presidential Primary, Trump won with 63.30% of the vote, while Nikki R. Haley received 34.64%, with 132 of 133 precincts reporting.

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY

In Isle of Wight County, only post-election ballots were listed as not reported for the Democratic Primary as of Wednesday morning on the elections website, and no status was listed for absentee ballots.

Biden won the primary in Isle of Wight with 93.55% of the vote, winning every precinct reporting. He received 59 votes in the Windsor Precinct, with nine going to Marianne Williamson and three going to Dean Benson Phillips.

County voter turnout in the primary was at 5.33%, with 1,677 ballots cast out of 31,476 registered voters.

For the Republican Primary in Isle of Wight, only provisional and post-election ballots were listed as not reported on the elections website as of Wednesday morning, and no status was listed for absentee ballots.

Trump won the primary in Isle of Wight with 74.43% of the vote, winning every precinct reporting. Haley received 24.22% of the vote.

In the Windsor Precinct, Trump received 270 votes, Haley received 45, Chris Christie and Vivek Ramaswamy each received three, and Ron D. DeSantis received two.

County voter turnout in the primary was at 14.59%, with 4,592 ballots cast out of 31,476 registered voters.
