    Town Supervisor, Town of Islip

A former small business owner, Angie Carpenter transitioned to a career in public service in 1993, when she was elected to the Suffolk County Legislature. She is currently Islip town supervisor.

While at the legislature, Carpenter served on almost every legislative committee and generated county-wide initiatives in public safety, education, economic development, consumer protection and cultural affairs, serving her last two years as the legislature’s deputy presiding officer.

Carpenter’s experience owning a business was invaluable in helping to draft the county’s annual multi-billion-dollar budget. She worked to bring Touro School of Health Sciences to downtown Bay Shore and was instrumental in the acquisition and preservation of Sagtikos Manor in Bay Shore.

In 2005, Carpenter was elected county treasurer. Serving in the role for nine years, she worked aggressively to increase interest earnings, broadening the pool of designated depositories.

In 2015, Carpenter was sworn in as the Town of Islip’s first woman supervisor in its more than 338-year history. Bringing many years of government experience, Carpenter hit the ground running, getting the town’s bond rating raised to its present AAA status, investing in the town’s long-neglected infrastructure and focusing on increasing service at Long Island MacArthur Airport. She has championed smart and sustainable development, focusing on green initiatives such as oyster farming and the bay bottom licensing program.

One of Carpenter’s greatest achievements as supervisor has been the total renovation and improvement of two of Islip’s four regional parks, Roberto Clemente and Byron Lake.

She was elected to her third term as supervisor last fall.
