Itawamba CPS to distribute school supplies Monday, still taking donations
The Itawamba County Department of Child Protection Services is set to provide school supplies for needy families heading into the 2024-25 school year. Itawamba CPS student interns Dexteria Gillom and Kaitlin Douglas organized the drive, and they said the agency is still accepting donations leading up to the July 15 distribution date.
Aaron Lee Loden
Aaron Lee Loden passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024. He was born on January 19, 1948, in Itawamba County, to the late Glen Clayton Loden and Velda Mae Wilburn Loden. Aaron served honorably in the US Army and had a diverse career as an business man and in local government, serving as the Itawamba County Tax Collector. Alongside his wife Susan, Aaron ran Fulton Skateland for over 25 years, where they loved getting to know the people in the community and watching the local kids grow up. He was passionate about working on his farm and nurturing thoroughbred horses to become future racers. Known for his keen eye for spotting a deal, he enjoyed studying pedigrees and spending time at the track, a passion that brought him immense joy throughout his life. A born-again Christian, Aaron served as a deacon for Big Oak Baptist Church in Fulton, MS, and later attended Gum Tree Presbyterian Church in Tupelo, MS.
Itawamba Sheriff's Dept. makes series of drug arrests last month
The Itawamba County Sheriff's Department reported a series of drug arrests last month. On June 13, law enforcement officials from the Itawamba Sheriff's Department, North Mississippi Narcotics and the Fulton Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at 1212 Doc Mason Road in Golden. Upon their arrival, agents discovered fentanyl inside the residence, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Crystal Owens, Bobbie Eklund and Hailey Smith.
United Way invests more than $1.7M to support local service programs
United Way of Northeast Mississippi has officially completed another grantmaking cycle. At its June meeting, the United Way Board of Directors voted to approve grants in support of 55 programs at 47 local nonprofit organizations across its 8-county service area, which includes Tishomingo, Itawamba, Union, Prentiss, Lee, Pontotoc, Monroe and Chickasaw counties.
