ROUNDUP: Lady Rams make it look easy against Everett in girls soccer action

Now that’s how you take care of business on the road.

Lynn Classical’s girls soccer team made its way to Everett on Tuesday, returning home with a 4-0 victory. Tatiana Lazo netted two goals to lead the Lady Rams’ charge, while Arianna Martinez and Dulce Juarez (assist) also did the honors.

Gianna Parker showed off her playmaking skills, finishing the outing with three assists. Goalie Maegan Baker stopped five shots to secure a shutout.

GIRLS SOCCER

Saugus 3
Swampscott 1

Despite a freshman goal-scorer in Julia Muser to fire up the Big Blue, Swampscott fell to host Saugus by a score of 3-1 in a nighttime thriller.

As far as highlights go, Layla Manderson of the Sachems took the cake, scoring from 35 yards out. Saugus’ Kendall Hatch and Madison Botta also went home with goals, while Fiona Keaney dished out an assist for Swampscott.

Pentucket 0

It was a quiet Tuesday – at least, for one half.

Lynnfield netted two in the bottom half to escape Pentucket with a victory. The first came from Rocca Scenna off a feed from Joel Anthony, while Matt Reinold put the game away with an unassisted strike.

“The defense was pretty good and Kelan (Cardinal) made a couple of good saves,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe, whose Pioneers return home Thursday against Ipswich. “It was a hard-fought game coming off a back-to-back.”

FIELD HOCKEY

Bishop Fenwick 0

When you get a traditional archrival coming onto your turf, you can expect the home team to be up for game day. Such was the case Tuesday when St. Mary’s protected Manning Field with a shutout victory over the Crusaders.

Dee Dee McCarron and Audrey Zinck were the goal-scorers for the Spartans.

Swampscott 2

In a tight showdown within the Northeastern Conference, the Tanners edged the Big Blue. Peabody’s Sophia Kassis registered six saves to lead the way.

The Tanners scored a goal late in the first half. That came from Daniella White to tie the game, 1-1. Then, Peabody jumped ahead thanks to a goal from Chris Troncoso (Amelia DiBattista assist).

Swampscott tied the game midway through the fourth quarter (2-2). However, Peabody wasn’t done fighting, finding another goal with 3:33 remaining through Elizabeth Moore.

The Big Blue received goals from Olivia Quagrello and Lyla Giard, but to no avail. Maisie Russo assisted both of Swampscott’s goals, while goalie Lilah Caplan posted four saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Cardinal Spellman 3
St. Mary’s 0

The visiting Spartans ran into trouble in Cardinal Spellman, falling in three set scores of 13-25, 17-25, and 21-25. Sky Watson (6 digs, 6 kills) and Vanessa Magloire (12 digs, 7 service points) played well in defeat.

The Big Blue picked up a five-set victory over the Panthers in Swampscott.

The hosts lost the first set, 17-25, before winning the second and third sets (25-23 and 25-18, respectively). The Panthers dug in and forced a fifth set after winning, 25-19, but the Big Blue weren’t going down that easy, winning the final set by a score of 15-10.

Do-it-all Lila Paster finished with 14 kills and four aces, while Yanielis Pizarro helped the cause with 18 kills.

GOLF

After having their winning streak snapped on Monday, the Spartans re-entered the win column. St. Mary’s was paced by Shea Newhall, who scored 30 points. Chase Collins (28), Micah Hashikawa (27), and Luke DiLisio (26) all played well in the victory.

The Rams (3-2) picked up their third win of the season, defeating Everett at Gannon Municipal Golf Course. It was a special day for Classical’s Joey Bartlett and Jonah Gallo, each of whom picked up their first varsity wins.

Boo DiSaia and Alex Sullivan also played well for the Rams, who take on Hamilton-Wenham on Wednesday.

BC High 236

The Eagles upped their record to 7-1 with a win against BC High. St. John’s Prep saw four players (Brian Loughlin, Seamus O’Holleran, Jack Moriarty, and Zach Enners) shoot even-par. Enners (36) and Dominic Meyers (37) shot their season best.

CROSS COUNTRY

St. Mary’s boys fell to Bishop Feehan, 17-44, in Lynn Woods, but not without positives. Cristian Rodríguez (19:45) and Lucian Paula (20:32) led the Spartans’ charge. On the girls’ side, a 20-43 loss to the Shamrocks, Kelsey Kwiatek secured first place (21:03) to go with a strong finish from Nina Lopes (26:03).

“We are such a young team and that definitely showed today with our top-two girls being a sophomore and freshman,” said St. Mary’s coach Tristan Smith. “I’m not worried about the state of the team right now. In fact, I’m extremely proud of the way everyone competed for the second meet in a row. Every single kid who started the race crossed the finish line and that’s rare in cross country sometimes.”

Despite a 28-28 tie through five runners, the Bishop Fenwick girls lost a heartbreaker to Archbishop Williams after the sixth-place Crusader finished a tad behind her opponent. Fenwick has now lost two meets by a total of one point.

Tuesday, the girls salvaged a split by beating host Bishop Stang, 17-45. Leading the way were Marianna Kay (2nd), Adelaide Sweatman (3rd), Olivia Rowe (4th) and Caroline Blatchford (8th).

Fenwick’s boys lost to Archbishop Williams, 19-38, and Bishop Stang, 17-38, at Dartmouth Middle School. The Crusaders were paced by Sam Appleyard (5th), Doron Appleyard (11th), and John Reilly (15th).
