ROUNDUP: Personal records aplenty for Pioneers

Lynnfield’s cross country runners lined up against a young Georgetown team on Tuesday. The girls swept places 1-7 and won their meet, 15-50.

Better yet, they received personal records from Kaila George (21:17, 15-second PR from last year), Ciara Long (31:02:00, 2-minute PR from last week), April Sun (24:21:00, 45-second PR from last year), Afsana Rabbani (30:57:00, 5-minute PR from last week), and Gemma Primavera (29:42:00, 3-minute PR from last week).

“I was very proud of them,” said Lynnfield coach Liane Cook.

On the boys’ side, they improved to 4-0 with a 16-47 victory. Shea McCarthy (1st, 16:09), yet again, led the way with another PR on his home course.

He was followed by Dylan Nguyen (2nd, 16:56), who also went home with a PR. Nick Degennaro placed third with a personal-best time of 17:51. He was followed by Ashkrit Mahajan (4th, PR 18:11) and Ritvik Mahajan (6th, 18:38).

Arlington Catholic 0

The Spartans (5-2-1) defended Manning Field, 3-0, against Arlington Catholic thanks to a pair of goals from Mauricio Marin. Eider Solis also found twine, while Cian LeVasseur registered another shutout between the pipes.

Lynnfield made a visit to Newburyport Wednesday and had to settle for a draw after the Clippers found the back of the net late. Tyler Maddocks scored for the Pioneers off a delivery from Rocco Scenna.

Gloucester 1

One game, seven celebrations. Saugus cruised by Gloucester, 7-1, on home turf behind hat-tricks from Shawn Sewell and Madison Botta (2 assists). Shalyn Sewell (2 assists) also caught eyes, heading in a goal off a corner kick.

Lynn Classical 1

Against a “very strong Winchester team,” according to Classical coach Chris LeBlanc, his Lady Rams fell in scores of 26-24, 10-25, 14-25, and 21-25 on home hardwood.

Leading the way for Classical were Emma Chevalier (20 assists, 2 aces, kill, 12 digs), Amanda Hughes (12 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs), and Brooke Braswell (6 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces, 6 digs).

“We played really competitive volleyball for most of the night against a team that was a huge step up in competition for us,” LeBlanc said. “I think tonight showed that we can truly compete with anyone we step onto the court against. We have no time to dwell on this or feel bad for ourselves. We are right back at it tomorrow with a rivalry match against English.”

After losing the first match of the season, make it 10 wins in a row. St. John’s Prep took care of business at Winchester Country Club, shooting its way to a 41.5-30.5 win on Wednesday. Leading the pack were Tripp Hollister, Seamus O’Holleran, Brian Loughlin, Dominic Meyers, and Seamus Cullen, who all shot 37.

St. Mary’s 172

St. Mary’s dropped to 9-5 after falling to Maden Catholic at Gannon Municipal Golf Course. Shea Newhall (32 points), Stephen Nason (25), and Jared Burke (25) all shot well.

Despite Tyler Ostroff (38) and Mike Collins (38) winning their matches to lead Swampscott, the Chieftains took care of business on their home course of Ferncroft Country Club. Sam Moscoso split his matchup for the Big Blue, who next tee off against Salem on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
