ROUNDUP: Classical, Tech volleyball sweep competition

What a night it was for both Lynn Tech and Lynn Classical volleyball both earning 3-0 sweeps of its respective opponents.

The Tigers (8-5) were firing on all cylinders in a 3-0 sweep of the Salem Academy Navigators.

In set scores, 25-11, 25-7, 25-13, Lynn Tech showed its dominance in the win.

The Tigers got help from everyone in the win. Zahara Belizaire had 10 assists, eight digs, six aces, and four kills to lead Lynn Tech. Lia Morales had 11 aces, five digs, and two kills, while Ana Godoy had eight digs and four aces to pace the home team.

Katie Tartarini registered four kills and two aces. Mahlyna Williams had five digs, Aemy Tiburcio had three aces and Stephanie Hernandez had three kills for the Tigers.

For Lynn Classical, the Rams earned their 12th win on Monday with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-17 sweep of Everett.

Junior, Brooke Braswell, played well with 10 kills, four aces, and three digs. Emma Chevalier registered 26 assists as the setter in addition to two kills, two aces, and three digs. Senior Amanda Hughes finished plays with authority with 12 kills on the night.

On Wednesday the Rams will look for revenge as Malden comes to Lynn Classical at 5:15 p.m., setting up a battle for first place in the Greater Boston League. Last time out, Malden defeated Lynn Classical in five sets back in September.

VOLLEYBALL

Bishop Fenwick 3

St. Mary’s 1

The Crusaders, in the comfort of their own home, defeated St. Mary’s 3-1 on Monday evening.

Despite the loss, the Spartans were led by Sky Watson who finished the game with eight kills, seven digs, and three aces. Teammate Gabby Lorenzini played well for St. Mary’s registering eight kills, three aces, and three blocks.

Bishop Fenwick 0

The Spartans (6-2-1) went into enemy territory and walked away with six goals and a shutout victory over rivals Bishop Fenwick.

St. Mary’s had five different goalscorers on the day with Eider Solis, Mauricio Marin, Jackson Chevalier, Justin Cavalcanti, and Ryan Esquivel all finding the back of the net.

In goal, Cian LeVasseur, kept the Crusaders out of his net registering another shutout.

Swampscott 2

Peabody 2

Four goals in the span of 10 minutes saw Peabody and Swampscott draw on Monday. Twice the Tanners were trailing and both times they found an equalizing goal. It was a scoreless first half, but in the second half, Swampscott’s Jack Raymond found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and poked it past to give the Big Blue a 1-0 lead.

Peabody responded within a minute as Kacper Kowalczyk side-footed the ball into the corner to level the game at one.

Straight from kick-off, Swampscott got its second goal as Raymond crossed it to Milad Sassin who had a tap-in to make it 2-1.

Fast forward a few minutes and it was Peabody again finding the equalizer as Osama Mishal rebounded the save into the back of the net.

Marblehead 1

Gloucester 0

During the offseason,  Marblehead head coach Elmer Magaña said that the one game he always looks forward to is Gloucester. Magaña’s brother-in-law, Armando Marnoto, is the head coach at Gloucester and this year, it’s Magaña who earned bragging rights with a 1-0 win.

Marblehead’s Miles Fontela-Tuttle’s strike was the difference between the two sides. Standout goalie Rory Zampese recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

St. Mary’s 3

Bishop Fenwick 0

St. Mary’s improved its record to 6-3-1 with a shutout victory at Manning Field.

Sophie Skabeikis was on fire for the Spartans scoring two goals and providing an assist. Andrea Basta was the other goalscorer to help power the Spartans.

When Elena Echeverria was called upon, she delivered. Echeverria made save after save to preserve the clean sheet.

Peabody 2

Swampscott 0

The Tanners (4-4-4) protected home turf on senior night with a shutout win over the Big Blue. Leading the way for Peabody were their two senior attackers, Ally Bettencourt and Connie Patturelli. Both Patturelli and Bettencourt registered a goal in the win.

Avery Marcus and Jess Steed provided the two assists, while Alessandra Forgione continued her great season with another shutout.

Danvers 2

Saugus 2

All four goals were scored in the second half between two of the top teams in the Northeastern Conference.

The Sachems held a two-goal lead into the second half thanks to Madison Botta and Shawn Sewell.

Danvers got one back 23 minutes into the half from junior DeAnna Figueiredo. Then with a one-goal deficit, Danvers got the equalizer from Lila Doucette.

Falcons goalie Maddie Dembowski played well in the draw.

Both teams are now 9-1-2.

FIELD HOCKEY

Peabody 3

Malden 0

The Tanners had three different scorers on Monday to help them get past Malden with relative ease.

Amelia DiBattista opened up the scoring for Peabody before Mia Omondi found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Omondi was assisted by Emily Hefler.

Peabody’s third goal came in the fourth quarter when Hefler went from passer to scorer as her shot got past the Malden goalie to make it 3-0. Hefler was assisted by Daniella White.

Hefler did a bit of everything and head coach Jillian Tobin praised her work.

“Newcomer Emily Hefler had her best game of the season and was a clear player of the game,” Tobin said.

The match was postponed and will be played on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Tedesco Country Club.
