Everett too much for Lynn Classical

LYNN — Coming into Friday night, Everett sported a 16-9-2 record against Lynn Classical dating back to 1897. At Manning Field, the Crimson Tide added to that record with a 48-0 win against the Rams.

Everett came out the blocks firing, scoring on each and every one of its first-half drives.

Leading the way for the Crimson Tide was speedy wide receiver Yariel Ortiz, who caught three balls for 108 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. His combination of speed and separation gave the Rams trouble.

Ortiz – who entered the action with 628 yards and eight touchdowns – has been Everett’s star this fall.

Everett totaled 267 total yards in the first half. It picked up 70 of those yards toward the end of the half when the Crimson Tide, already up 27-0, decided to run a flea flicker. Then, with 2:32 remaining on the clock, Carlos Rodrigues threw the ball to Ortiz, who beat Classical’s defense for a 70-yard touchdown to make it 34-0 at the half.

It was, frankly, always going to be an uphill battle for Classical, which was without multiple quarterbacks due to injury. Starting running back Tyren Hoeun, who scored four touchdowns against Revere last week, wasn’t able to suit up either.

Getting the nod at quarterback was sophomore Gianni McKay, who ran the ball hard with more than 30 yards rushing from under center.

The Rams threatened to score late, finding the red zone in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the hosts, time expired on a potential touchdown drive.

Everett bounced back from a 35-21 loss to Brockton with more than 300 yards of offense to improve to 3-4, while the Rams dropped to 2-5.

Everett hosts Revere next week, while the Rams welcome Somerville to Manning Field next Saturday at noon.
