It's that time of the year again.

On Sunday, August 11, the Ithaca Rotary Club is hosting its annual Road Rally at the Ithaca ReUse Center at 2225 North Triphammer Road in the city to benefit the club's James L. Gibbs scholarship fund and youth programs locally.

The Rotary Rally begins at 1 p.m. at the ReUse MegaCenter, and is open to the public. The club says on its website to “Look for balloons and banner,” as the registration table opens at 1 p.m.; all cars must be on the course when registration closes at 2 p.m.

Advance registration is encouraged, but not required. Walk-ins are welcome the day of the rally.

Participants will follow clues in their cars along over 30 miles of country roads in and around Tompkins County, answering riddles, taking pictures, and picking up scavenger hunt items along the way.

The Rotary Rally will finish with the checkered flag at a “mystery” location for prizes, drinks, and dinner.

Win cash prizes for the nonprofit of your choice

Cars must cross the finish line by 4 p.m. to be eligible for prizes. Teams will be judged on time, mileage, number of correct clues, scavenger hunt items, and group photos. An additional prize will be awarded for team spirit, which may include costumes or best-decorated car.

With a minimum of two people per team and no maximum, it's safe to say however many fit safely in the car are welcome to join.

Those who finish the course on time can win a grant for their favorite local non-profit organization, thanks to the Ithaca Rotary Club’s donor-advised fund at the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.

Winners may select which local not-for-profit (NFP) they wish to receive their winning prize, with first-place winners to gift a $500 grant to the nonprofit of their choice. Second-place finishers and other randomly drawn cars that crossed the finish line can donate $250 to their choice of organization.
