Quality is always an integral part of any food preparation process, but especially so in sushi, one of man’s most ingenious culinary creations. Fresh quality ingredients, for instance, always differentiate amazing sushi from the dreaded ‘gas station sushi.’ For some of arguably the freshest and best sushi in all of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, located in The Market Common district, one must go to Co.

Co Sushi is everything one wants for a night on the town: small plates (great for sharing with family or on date night), modern decor with a sleek and romantic red and black motif, and a variety of sushi that never leaves one without something new to try next time. Spoilers, there will definitely be a next time.

Small plates are a great place to start, with a solid variety of gorgeously presented dishes and appetizers to choose from. There are some neat salads here for green-lovers, the creatively crafted garlic sesame tuna tacos, or a personal favorite - the crispy tuna nigiri with spicy tuna, spicy aioli, unagi sauce, scallions, and sliced jalapenos for a hot peppery finish.

There is a wide selection of finely crafted makimono rolls, easily over a dozen on the menu, as well as staple maki, nigiri, temaki, and sashimi. Fans of classic rolls will love the five always featured on the main menu, and the rotating variety during happy hour. A personal favorite classic will always be the scrumptious california roll with fresh surimi, cucumber, and avocado.

What makes everything even better? Deep frying it. The crispy rolls at Co Sushi have the perfect level of fried crunchy goodness, never too light, never drenched in oil. The sunset crab features spicy crab, avocado, cream cheese, tempura, sweet potato, and rangoon sauce for a rich and tangy harmony of flavors, or try the crispy dynamite with spicy tuna, cream cheese, yamagobo, and spicy aioli for some tasty sweet heat.

Though sushi is in the name, the broth and noodles section of the menu is equal parts amazing. The curry laksa at Co is truly one-of-a-kind, both flavor-wise and quite possibly literally, as Co appears to be the only place along the Grand Strand that offers it on their menu. If one has never had curry laksa, go get some with shrimp in it, right now. Otherwise, try the always wholesome and filling pho, in choice of chicken or beef, featuring Co’s unique beef broth blend, rice vermicelli, cilantro, bean sprouts, scallions, thai basil, and hoisin and sriracha on the side.
