There's nothing quite like having a balcony cabin on a cruise ship. But while that semi-private space might seem like yours to do with as you please, Carnival is making sure cruisers know it comes with limitations.

Carnival Cruise Line has issued a statement, reminding passengers that hammocks are strictly prohibited from being hung on ship balconies.

The clarification comes amid ongoing confusion and questions about the policy.

John Heald, the cruise line’s Brand Ambassador, addressed the issue on his popular Facebook page where he regularly interacts with guests.

"A topic came up … about hanging a hammock on the balcony," one passenger commented. "Many said that is against the Carnival rules. Others stated they could find nothing on Carnival saying this is not allowed."

    Heald confirmed the ban, stating,

"The answer is no this is not allowed for safety reasons and they would be removed if anybody tried to put one up."

While the cruise line’s prohibited items list doesn't explicitly mention hammocks, the policy against their use on balconies is firmly in place.

This stance has been consistent over the years, as Heald has previously addressed the issue as far back as 2022.

The decision to prohibit hammocks is rooted in safety concerns. Without proper installation and weight capacity information, there's a risk of injury.

Additionally, there's the potential for hammocks to become loose and blow overboard, posing environmental hazards.

It's worth noting that while hammocks are forbidden on Carnival, other cruise lines, such as Virgin Voyages, offer them on balconies. But they have been tested for safety as well.

These have proven to be very popular with regular cruisers of the adult-only cruise line.

As Carnival's Heald emphasized, the cruise line’s cabin attendants, while dedicated to guest satisfaction, cannot override safety regulations.

While it might seem like a minor detail, cruise lines like Carnival are always looking at liability as a major concern, as it only takes one incident to cause a huge problem.
