A group of four people had their dream Iceland cruise turn into a nightmare after missing the cruise entirely.

A Reddit user shared the story on the platform, warning others about the risks of same-day flights for cruises.

The post was titled 'Missed our cruise to Iceland and had to cancel'.

The travelers booked a 12-day cruise through Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and planned to fly to their departure city on the same day.

    As the OP described it,

"We were up at 3:30 a.m. to make sure we got there two hours before departure. This was just for a one-hour domestic flight."

But their troubles began almost immediately. The airport was chaos due to a baggage drop-off issue, causing massive lines.

Even after paying for a premium check-in, they were still delayed and ultimately missed their flight. They managed to rebook but then faced another flight cancellation due to bad weather.

The travelers eventually had to drive seven hours home, feeling exhausted and disappointed. They received a 75% cruise credit but lost out on the entire trip.

"Please. Don’t. Fly. The day of," the user wrote in the Reddit post.

They warned that even booking through a cruise line doesn't guarantee a smooth journey.

This experience highlights the importance of careful planning when booking a cruise. While flying on the same day might seem convenient, it's risky.

It also emphasizes the importance of having some kind of cruise travel insurance.

Airlines can face unexpected issues like delays, cancellations, or baggage problems, which can easily lead to missing your ship. Cruise lines have strict departure times, and missing the boat can be costly and heartbreaking.

It's recommended to book your flight at least a day before your cruise departs to give yourself a buffer in case of travel hiccups. Also, consider purchasing travel insurance to protect yourself from unexpected expenses.

Remember, while cruise vacations are meant to be relaxing, unexpected challenges can arise. By being prepared and informed, you can increase your chances of a smooth sailing experience.
