In a dramatic rescue operation captured on video, the Italian Coast Guard airlifted a pregnant woman from a cruise ship in the Adriatic Sea on Sunday.

According to news reports, the woman, who was experiencing complications and "at risk of miscarriage", was successfully transported to a hospital for medical care.

The rescue unfolded as the sun began to set, with coast guard personnel descending from a helicopter onto the cruise ship's deck.

The woman was carefully placed on a stretcher and hoisted into the aircraft. A spokesperson for the Italian Coast Guard described the operation as "emergency medical evacuation."

“Last night, the coast guard of Ancona coordinated an emergency medical evacuation for a pregnant woman at risk of miscarriage who was on board a cruise ship about 40 miles from Pescara,” the coast guard statement said.
“The rescue operations were conducted with the help of a #SAR patrol boat of the Coast Guard of #SanBenedettoDelTronto and a NEMO helicopter of the Pescara Air Force.”

The swift and coordinated response from the coast guard has gained over 10,000 likes on the coast guard's official Facebook page.

Following the rescue, the woman was transferred to the care of medical professionals and admitted to a hospital in Pescara.

The Italian Coast Guard has not released further details about the woman's condition.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by pregnant women traveling by sea. While cruise lines generally permit passengers to board up until the end of the second trimester, specific policies can vary.
