Dramatic images have surfaced showing climate activists successfully preventing a massive cruise ship from entering the port of Amsterdam.

According to news reports, the blockade, carried out by Extinction Rebellion, disrupted the itinerary of thousands of passengers aboard Royal Caribbean International's Serenade of the Seas.

The 90,090-gross-ton vessel was met with a human barricade as it approached the IJmuiden locks on August 18th.

Protestors held firm for several hours, delaying the ship's entry and forcing passengers to endure unexpected disruptions to their voyage.

This incident is the latest in a series of escalating protests targeting the cruise industry.

Earlier this month, the same group successfully blocked Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas and Regent Seven Seas Cruises' Seven Seas Mariner from entering the Dutch port.

Extinction Rebellion has been outspoken in its criticism of the cruise industry, accusing it of significant contributions to air, water, and land pollution. The group is demanding an immediate end to cruise operations worldwide.

The blockade has sparked a wider debate about the environmental impact of cruise tourism and the tactics employed by activists to draw attention to the issue.

As the climate crisis intensifies, it is likely that similar protests will occur in other major port cities.

Serenade of the Seas, the focus of the most recent protest, is currently nearing the end of its 274-night world cruise.

This extended voyage has garnered significant attention on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where the ship has amassed a large following.
