A Texas man was arrested on a sexual battery charge after allegedly assaulting a woman aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

Juan Campos, 28, was taken into custody on Sunday at a Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal.

According to the news reports, the 20-year-old victim reported that the incident occurred while the ship, Freedom of the Seas, was at sea.

She told investigators that Campos, a fellow passenger, had forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her against her will.

The victim described the assault to deputies, stating that Campos had unbuttoned her shorts and penetrated her without her consent.

She said she had repeatedly told him to stop and that the actions were causing her pain. Despite her protests, Campos persisted in his assault, according to the report.

Campos was arrested after disembarking the ship and was then booked into the Broward County Jail. He has since been released on bond.

In response to the allegations, Campos' attorney, Ed Hoeg, issued a statement denying his client's guilt. Hoeg claimed that there were witnesses who would corroborate Campos' version of events and contradict the victim's account.

"I can tell you that it is my understanding, from speaking to persons other than Mr. Campos, that there are witnesses and evidence which I expect will contradict the narrative detailed in the probable cause affidavit," Hoeg said in an email to the Miami Herald.

As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether Campos will face additional charges or if the case will proceed to trial.
