Royal Caribbean International is set to include its private destination, Labadee, Haiti, to its Caribbean itineraries. The cruise line's decision comes after a temporary suspension due to escalating violence and hostility in the country.

Labadee has been excluded from itineraries since March 2024. The suspension was implemented in response to safety concerns, including the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021 and subsequent prison escapes.

However, recent developments, such as the return of airlines to local airports and increased peace-keeping efforts, have provided a more optimistic outlook for the cruise line.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean expressed its enthusiasm for the return, stating, "Labadee is one of our fan-favorite private destinations and we are ready and excited to return to Labadee in October 2024!"

The cruise line's decision to resume visits to Labadee marks a significant milestone for Haiti's tourism industry, which has been heavily impacted by the country's political and social turmoil.

The return of Royal Caribbean's ships not only brings economic benefits to the local community but also serves as a symbol of hope and progress.

Which ship will be the first to return?

Adventure of the Seas, a 3,807-passenger vessel, will be the first Royal Caribbean ship to visit Labadee on October 8, 2024. The ship will sail on a 6-night Eastern Caribbean voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida.

Other Royal Caribbean ships, including Freedom of the Seas and Independence of the Seas, are also scheduled to visit Labadee in the coming months.

While the return of Royal Caribbean to Haiti is a positive development, it's important to note that the country continues to face significant challenges.

The ongoing instability and security concerns remain a pressing issue that could potentially impact future itineraries.

As the country continues to navigate its challenges, the return of tourism is at least a positive sign for the local region.
