According to news reports, a cruise ship employee was sentenced to 30 years in prison for secretly recording passengers in their cabins. Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a stateroom attendant, admitted to the crime in a previous plea deal.

The incident came to light on February 25, 2024, when a guest aboard the ship discovered a hidden camera in their bathroom. The device was concealed under the sink and was found recording the guest while they were showering.

Alarmed by the discovery, the guest immediately reported the incident to ship security.

Security personnel detained Mirasol and turned him over to authorities when the ship docked at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on March 3 of this year.

Upon boarding the ship, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents began their investigation into the matter.

A thorough search of Mirasol's belongings revealed numerous videos of children in various stages of undress. The victims' ages ranged from 2 to 17 years old.

Investigators determined that Mirasol had been secretly recording guests in their cabins since December 2023.

Mirasol would entering guest rooms while they were showering, hiding under their beds, and recording them as they exited the shower.

The sentencing marks the conclusion of a case that has sent shockwaves through the cruise industry and made cruise lines more vigilant in vetting new hires.
