Royal Caribbean has recently added a surprising item to its list of prohibited items for passengers: multi-plug outlets.

This seemingly harmless device, often used to accommodate multiple electronic devices, is now deemed a potential fire hazard and is strictly forbidden on the cruise line's ships.

Exention cords with surge protectors have been banned from cruise ships for years now, but passengers were allowed to bring a regular multi-plug adapter with them.

Surge protectors cause issues with the electrical systems on cruise ships which are different from land-based systems.

But this new ban will not allow any type of multi-plug adapter on Royal Caribbean ships.

The decision has sparked debate among travelers, who often find themselves scrambling for limited power outlets on older cruise ships.

With so many cruisers bringing smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices on board, multi-plug outlets have become a popular solution to ensure that everyone can stay connected and powered up throughout their voyage.

However, Royal Caribbean maintains that the ban is necessary to prevent potential fire hazards. When multiple devices are plugged into a single outlet, the outlet may not be able to handle the load, leading to overheating and potentially causing a fire.

This is particularly concerning on cruise ships, where the confined spaces and flammable materials can make the risks worse.

The ban on multi-plug outlets is just one example of a broader crackdown on items that could pose a fire hazard.

Royal Caribbean has also expanded its list of prohibited items to include a variety of other items, such as extension cords, power strips, and certain types of batteries.

Some travelers may argue that the ban is excessive and that there are other ways to address the potential fire risks associated with multi-plug outlets. For example, the cruise line could provide more power outlets in cabins and public areas, or it could require passengers to use surge protectors to help prevent overheating.
