Former WXIX anchor Lauren Minor joins Lexington station
Cincinnati native Lauren Minor revealed Friday how and why she abruptly left WXIX-TV last month after five years in a Facebook post. “On July 8th, I was informed by management that they no longer wanted to continue contract negotiations on a new deal. Additionally, I was informed that my services were no longer needed. I spent the rest of the summer enjoying time with my family at home,” says Minor, a Northern Kentucky University graduate.
Morehead receives FEMA grant to fund “green sink” engineering
Planning is moving ahead smoothly for an innovative flood mitigation project, which officials said will help protect people and property throughout Rowan County. FEMA recently awarded the City of Morehead with a Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant to aid the planning and development of overflow basins known as green sinks. City officials said the funding comes after the State Army Corps of Engineers recognized Rowan County, along with much of eastern Kentucky, as at-risk for flooding.
Fort Campbell announces new barracks complex
Fort Campbell announced that the 1st Brigade Combat Team “Bastogne” is set to host a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new barracks complex. According to a news release, the new barracks complex is replacing a complex built in the 1980s and the project is a major step toward improving soldier housing. The new living quarters will include more space and privacy for residents.

In June, BOGO Fireworks, for the first time in its history here in Owensboro, was in a brick and mortar location. Prior to 2024, Joni Autry operated her successful fireworks business under a tent located in a variety of places on the south end of Frederica Street. For years, that tent was situated in the side parking lot of Office Depot behind Panera Bread Company. It later moved behind Towne Square Mall. Even later, Joni set up shop in front of Towne Square Mall. But, this year, she managed to move BOGO inside the former Stay Fit location at J.R. Miller Boulevard. Now, she's doing the same thing with her popular Halloween business- Halloween Havoc.

Eastern Kentucky hopes for an economic boost from ATV riders
PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WCHS) — There are several miles of trails across eastern Kentucky that signal plans to the ATV industry in a post-coal economy. "I think it will help our restaurants, gas stations and there's much more capability for lodging in Louisa and Lawrence County if the trail system is up and running," Wes Kingsmore, Lawrence County Tourism Board chairman, said.
