Outlaw Run set for Feb. 17

Outlaw Run set for Feb. 17 Brian Smith Tue, 02/13/2024 - 8:24 pm After a successful first race last September, Texas Outlaw Running is coming back to Jacksboro to host another race, the North Texas Ultra, this Saturday, Feb. 17. Organizer Briston Rains said the group is planning to keep the race in February moving forward. The last race had 143 runners sign up, which was thought to be pretty good. The course follows a 15.5-mile out and back course beginning and ending at the North Park Unit. Rains said the reason for the success of the Jacksboro race, which has divisions for 10K, 25K, 50K, 52mile and 100K, is two-fold. “Jacksboro has a lot of long, flat trailways at (Fort Richardson), which can lead to fast times when you’re running an ultra marathon,” Rains explained. “We get people from all over the state, the nation and it’s because of the course.” Rains said signups for the race this weekend are sitting at 130 as of Tuesday, Feb. 6. He said because of the popularity of the course, there are only about 20 spots open. “Registrations always pick up in the final days,” Rains said. Registration costs range from $40 to $140 depending on the length of the race and when registration occurs. The race will have staggered start times starting at 7:30 a.m. for the two shortest races, 7 a.m. for the 50K and 52-mile runners and 6 a.m. for the 100K runners. Packet pickup will run from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 and 5 to 7:15 a.m. the morning of the race. Participants will receive their bib and race shirt at packet pickup. Volunteers can find more information at texasoutlawrunning. com. Registration can also be completed on the website as well.
