Construction bids for the bond project are now being accepted after the Jacksboro ISD board approved moving forward during the Monday, Feb. 12 meeting. Lance Aaron with Gallagher Construction Services explained the process to the board. Bids are being accepted by delivery and also electronically. The deadline is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27. The bids will be opened and considered. A decision is expected at the board’s Monday, March 18 meeting. In a related item, the board’s March meeting was moved back a week due to Spring Break. Aaron said receiving about four to five bids would be great but it’s always hard to predict what to expect. Once a decision is made, work is expected to begin within three to four weeks, Aaron said. The district opted to put everything together into one package in an attempt to potentially save money. Construction is expected to be complete on all projects within 18-24 months. Projects include a new 7-8 grade campus, renovations at both Jacksboro Elementary and Jacksboro Middle Schools, and others. In other news, the district discussed its Texas Academic Performance Report.Each school saw strengths with the high schools seeing big increases in those that met or mastered English I and II along with U.S. History at the high school. Eighth grade science at the middle school along with increases in both third and fifth grade reading and math scores. Assistant Superintendent Sara Mathis noted that there were areas that warranted being looked at for improvement. “Plans are in place to help meet the performance standard,” Mathis said. Mathis spoke of a program sponsored by Moncrief Cancer Institute and Faith Community Hospital involving the HPV vaccine. Students ages 10-18, with parent consent, will be able to receive the vaccine after the district’s Student Health Advisory Committee approved it. Mathis said a preliminary meeting is set for noon Monday, Feb. 26 at the Jacksboro High School cafeteria.
