City seeking additional grant monies for JPD Brian Smith Tue, 02/27/2024 - 8:14 pm   Members of the Jacksboro City Council listen to a presentation during their Monday, Feb. 12 meeting. Photo/Brian Smith Law enforcement from Jack County are looking into grant monies that would help in the case of a wanted vehicle. Jacksboro Police Chief Bryan Corb told aldermen at their Monday, Feb. 12 meeting about a license plate reader program that would have cameras set up at multiple locations on entrances and exits within the county. Notices on wanted vehicles as well as vehicles wanted in crimes will be alerted to. The county will be reallocating some funds within its present budget to get the ball rolling on the project. Four of the cameras will be set up around the square and the others on major highways, Corb said. The grant will be submitted aw a law enforcement priority grant. County Emergency Management Coordinator Frank Hefner said the grant has a good chance of being funded. In other news, City Manager Mike Smith explained the need for some work on the water tower on Belknap. Smith said the tower needs to be repainted and have a small leak repaired along with some other interior and exterior renovations. The city had worked with McGuire Iron a few years back on a project and they gave a soft estimate of everything costing around $297,000. “We hope to do everything in stages,” Smith said. Smith also addressed the recent increase in residents cooking food and selling it from their homes on social media. A number of food establishments had asked officials to look into the issue citing potential temperature control systems with time sensitive items. Smith said since the city has no health department, their hands “were tied.” “We have no teeth to manage it,” Smith said. Mayor Craig Fenter said educating those who are going it on proper food techniques would be a good first step.
