    Softball perfect in IP Tourney Brian Smith Wed, 03/06/2024 - 5:07 pm Jacksboro’s varsity softball team got out of the District 7-3A gate on the right foot Tuesday, Feb. 27, getting great pitching, “phenomenal defense and timely hitting” in a 4-2 home field win over Iowa Park. The Tigerettes were outhit 8-6 but the hits came at key times. Jacksboro got on the board with a first inning run. The Lady Hawks scored twice in the second only to have the hostesses get the runs back in the bottom of the third for a 3-2 lead. The Purple picked up an insurance run in the 6th. Tigerette pitcher Shelby Seaberry threw a complete game in the circle, walking just two. Seaberry aided her cause with three hits, including two RBI. Emma Gray, Kylie Tullous and Brailyn Tullous had one hit each for the Purple. The girls continued tournament play in the Iowa Park-Henrietta Tournament last weekend, opening with an 11-2 win over Archer City. The Tigerettes had 11 hits and took advantage of eight Lady ‘Cat errors. Kylie Tullous led the way with four hits with Rylee Mathis and Brooke Reaves adding two hits each. Gray, Bella Nail and Maddy Morgan each had one hit. Mathis had two RBIs for Jacksboro. Seaberry struck out seven in getting the complete game win in the circle. The hit parade continued for the Purple as the squad swatted 12 hits in a 15-7 win over Class 4A Borger. A fiverun third inning and four each in the fourth and fifth helped the Tigerettes pull away. Gray, Kylie Tullous, Mathis, Seaberry and Reaves each had two hits with Morgan and Lily Perez adding one each. Morgan and Seaberry each had two RBIs for the Purple. Reaves got the win in the pitching circle with Seaberry notching the save. Jacksboro continued rolling with a 17-2 win over Petrolia. A 13-run 2nd inning broke the game open for the Tigerettes. Jacksboro followed that Friday with a thrilling 4-3 win over Amarillo, ranked No. 14 in Class 5A. With the game tied at three in the fifth, Gray reached on an error, Kylie Tullous’ single moved her to second, a wild pitch to third and a Mathis sacrifice bunt scored her. Mathis had a two-RBI single in the third. Kylie Tullous had three hits to lead a ninehit attack with Reaves adding a pair. The girls ended the tournament 6-0 with a 4-2 win over Canyon and a 7-2 victory over Merkel on Saturday Against Canyon, Jacksboro struck for three first inning runs and allowed just four hits to pick up the win. The Tigerettes’ were led by two hits each from both Brailyn Tullous and Mathis. Seaberry and Reaves along with Kylie Tullous had one hit each. Seaberry allowed one earned run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Against Merkel in the tournament finale, the Tigerettes scored a single first inning run and added three more in the third and fourth innings. The Purple also took advantage of five Merkel errors in the game to get Reaves the pitching win in the circle. Gray, Kylie Tullous and Mathis each had two hits to pace the Purple offense. Jacksboro faced Holliday yesterday and will host Kennedale at 5:45 p.m. Friday, March 8.
