Seaberry, Welch, Pierce named Athletes of the Week Brian Smith Wed, 03/13/2024 - 8:30 am   Alt Text for Image   Alt Text for Image   Jacksboro’s Shelby Seaberry (left), Bryson’s Jameson Pierce (middle), and Perrin’s Joe Welch (right) have been named the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette’s Athletes of the Week for the past week. Photos Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. Athletes will be chosen with input from the respective districts’ coaches based on factors that go beyond achievement on the field, court or track. Aside from statistics, athletes who coaches deem to have stepped up in other ways including leadership or general team spirit will be considered as well. Features will include stats from the previous week of games and comments from coaches. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Shelby Seaberry, of Jacksboro, Joe Welch, of Perrin, and Jameson Pierce, of Bryson. Joe Welch, PWHS Perrin’s Athlete of the Week is Joe Welch. After coming through with two extra base hits and batting in two RBIs in a 14-3 victory over county rival Bryson, Welch earned the spot for this week. “We had a good day hitting the ball and Joe was one of them,” Perrin coach Scott McPherson noted. The Pirates had 12 hits in the contest, played as part of the Peaster Tournament. Shelby Seaberry, JHS Jacksboro’s Athlete of the Week is Shelby Seaberry. Jacksboro’s junior softball pitcher had a solid outing March 5 in a big District 7-3A matchup with host Holliday. Seaberry allowed just one earned run on five hits in the complete game in the circle to help the Tigerettes put their stamp on District 7-3A in what a statement win. Seaberry was also 3-4 with a walk and batted in three runs for Jacksboro. Seaberry said she approached the game just line any other, despite Holliday being ranked No. 8 in Class 3A. “I know I have an amazing defense,” Seaberry noted. “I’m able to just pitch because of that and not think too much.” Jameson Pierce, BHS Jameson Pierce is Bryson’s Athlete of the Week. Pierce, a junior, did a great job in centerfield during the Cowboys’ loss to Perrin Saturday, March 9 at the Peaster Tournament. “He hustled throughout the tournament,” Bryson coach Justin Ramirez said.
