Photo/Brian Smith A guaranteed maximum price of $47,070,726 for bond items was approved by Jacksboro ISD board members during a special board meeting Thursday, March 28. The price was below the $47.5 million approved by voters during the May 2023 bond issue. Gallagher Construction Services, which will be in charge of the project and dealing with the contractors and sub-contractors, said the company will work as many local personnel as possible. Jackson Construction was one of the local contractors hired to work the process, lead estimator Robert Black said. Vice President of Construction for the Western Region Cliff Claussen said work in the area should be seen in about a month once contracts are sent out and approved. A site plan is already in place, Claussen said. JISD Superintendent Brad Burnett said some preliminary work has begun and will continue including construction fencing between the current construction on the gym and the new construction, which includes a 7th-8th grade campus, a new Career and Technology Education building and expansions on both the band hall and field house. “Hopefully within about 24 months we’ll be celebrating an end to the project,” Burnett said. Burnett told the board there is money build into the budget for furnishings for the new buildings. In previous bond issues, those monies have all come out of the general fund budget. Someoftheitemswill be rebid such as canopies for the schools and drop off areas along with wood floors in the gym. Burnett said the district would like to work with Allen Sports Floors, which installed the floors in both the elementary and high school, to do the floor in the new middle school as well. Burnett said the district will also be doing some of the work “inhouse” as well. A $1.425 million contingency fund is set aside in the projects for changes that happen along the way. “When you’re walking the building, you may see a need for an extra door or something,” Burnett said. Burnett opened the 30-minute meeting by saying said the bond issue passage will provide the district with some of the finest Class 3A facilities in the state and enable JISD to manage its enrollment increases for the next half-century.
