File photos Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Landrie Valenzuela, of Jacksboro, Erika Hernandez, of Perrin, and Brooke Bennett, of Bryson. Landrie Valenzuela, JHS The senior track athlete qualified for regionals April 19-20 with a win in the shot put after a 41’ 3/4” throw in the area meet April 11. Valenzuela has had a strong senior year, qualifying for state in both powerlifting and cheerleading and helping Jacksboro to a state title and national title in cheerleading earlier this year. Erika Hernandez, PWHS The senior Lady Pirate qualified for regionals in three events. She was a member of the 800-meter relay which finished 2nd, she finished 3rd in the 200-meter run and was a member of the 400-meter relay quartet that finished 4th. Hernandez has played volleyball, cross country, basketball and run track during her career and Perrin. Brooke Bennett, BHS Bennett will team with classmate Kassidie Newton and Jaydah McComack in representing Bryson at the regional track meet in Denton. Bennett, who has competed in volleyball and basketball this year, finished 3rd in the shot-put to qualify her in the event.
