    Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday

Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday Brian Smith Wed, 05/08/2024 - 7:22 am Postal carriers throughout the county will be picking up donations of non-perishable food items Saturday, May 11. Each year, on the second Saturday in May local carriers collect donations of non-perishable items to benefit the Jacksboro Community Food Pantry. The Stamp Out Hunger food drive has been going on since 1993 and has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of local food pantries. JCFP Executive Director Sheri Kettlety said local officials have been forced to buy more food in recent months. “We need non-perishables,” Kettlety said. “We have had very limited availability the last six to eight months at the Wichita Falls Food Bank because their storage facility is so small.” The food bank sells food for 19 cents a pound, Kettlety said. Having to shop at local stores is more expensive, showing the need for donations is great. The public can participate by leaving a donation of non-perishable food in a bag near their mailbox. The volunteers at JCFP will sort, shelve and distribute gifts from 2:30 to 6 p.m. the third Monday of each month from The Light Church, at 321 N. Second St. Kettlety said every penny of donations will be given to the impoverished, elderly and children in Jack County who suffer from food insecurity. “As we’ve said many times, we simply could not accomplish this mission without you,” she said. “The community has been absolutely phenomenal with its giving, its generosity and its time volunteering.”
