Athletes medal, break records at state Brian Smith Wed, 05/08/2024 - 7:22 am Jack County athletes had a strong showing at the state track meet last week in Austin. Jacksboro senior Landrie Valenzuela medaled with a third place finish in the Class 3A shot put with a 40-7 throw Thursday, May 2. “ This was my first trip to state,” Valenzuela said. “It was great to medal. I’m going to throw at Angelo State. I ended my high school career on a good note.” Jacksboro junior Jaxson Hubble finished second Friday, May 3 in the seated shot put with a 25-8.5 throw. Over his six throws, each throw increased by a few inches. He started with a throw of 24-4.5 and ended with his best throw. “I felt really good,” Hubble said. “That was my furthest throw. I’d like to come back next year. I need to throw more in practice and work harder. It’s been a lot of fun.” Bryson freshman Jaydah McComack broke the school record in the 400-meter dash Saturday, May 4 and finished ninth with a time of 1:01.74.
