The day-long event is highlighted by the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. File photo All sorts of fun events will be coming to Jacksboro with the annual TNT Fest at Twin Lakes Community Park. The all-day event opens at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 29 with the Jacksboro Youth Sports Association Baseball Tournament for divisions 8U-14U. Sixty-five teams from as far away as Amarillo, Abilene and Waco will compete in the tournament. Organizer Billy Thompson said there are still openings for two teams wishing to compete in the 13U and 14U divisions. For information, contact Thompson at 940-5671141. A barbecue cook-off coordinated by Lone Star Barbecue Society and sponsored by the Jacksboro Fire Department is scheduled for June 28-29. Entry fees for chicken, brisket and pork spare ribs are $150, with Dutch oven dessert and beans having $10 entry fees. Nearly 30 food and merchandise vendors will be housed underneath the pavilion beginning at 10:30 a.m. City of Jacksboro Human Resources Director Leslie Jackson said vendors include a knife sell- er, boutique-style items and a homemade jewelry seller. Food vendors include a freeze-dried candy seller and every kind of food imaginable, Jackson said. “We’ll have sugar, sugar, sugar and more sugar,” Jackson said “A lot of fried food as well.” Jack County Stand Together on Meth Prevention (STOMP) will be sponsoring chicken poop bingo under the pavilion. Inflatable water slides will be available all day for $10. Many of the more popular events will be taking place in the early evening. The annual Baby Beautiful contest will start at 6:30 p.m. Registration can be completed at City Hall in advance or at the stage the day of the event until 5 p.m. Children up to 24-months-old can enter and will be divided into three month categories (3-6 months, etc). The band Tempting Disaster, a crowd favorite the last few years, will take the stage around 8 p.m. Jackson said they play music for all ages. A fan favorite is the fireworks display.
