    Council approves zoning change

    Council approves zoning change Brian Smith Tue, 06/18/2024 - 6:52 am Approval of a zoning change and a conditional use permit were made as part of the Jacksboro City Council meeting last week. The zoning change was made Monday, June 10 at the council’s regular meeting for a 0.8-acre piece of property in which David and Kara Crombie want to place _ve quadplexes on their property. The property is located between Wichita Avenue and W. Live Oak Street. The change from Single Family 1, which has smaller lots and normally smaller residences to Single Family 2 which normally has larger lots and allows for larger residences was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission. City Manager Mike Smith said there would be no threat of spot zoning as the property to the east of the Crombie’s is already zoned SF 2. Aldermen had expressed concerns about traf_c and speed in the area, which is near Jacksboro Elementary School. Smith said patrols have noticed the traf_c remains fairly consistent and of_cers found traf_c and speed to be a non issue. Aldermen had expressed concerns about parking and traffic at their Monday, April 22 meeting. Crombie said an architect rendering found room for 40 vehicles, enough for the 20 residences proposed. Crombie was asked for a rendering at the previous meeting. Crombie said he is simply trying to bring housing into the city, which he said it needs. Alderman Greg Robinson said he agreed with the housing need at the April 22 meeting but wanted to make sure it would be safe. Kara Crombie said at the April 22 meeting, much of the housing would be used by single mothers who don’t need a lot of parking. After discussion, the council approved the zoning change. Conditional use permit approved A conditional use permit was approved for 513 Henderson St., a private road located due west of the Lowe’s parking lot, which comes off of Live Oak Street. Smith said Brian Isbell wants to use a portion of the property for commercial office space to open a financial planning business. Letters letting nearby owners know of the change have to be sent out. Parking is available on Live Oak Street, Isbell said. Smith said there was one letter against the change noting parking would be an issue. Isbell told the council he met with Lowe’s management which sometimes uses the road for truck deliveries and didn’t think the deliveries would be an issue.
